Indoor Air Quality Solutions Questions

Every question we get asked about indoor air quality solutions, answered straight.

Questions

How It Works

  • Do I need a separate air purifier if I upgrade my furnace filter?

Not necessarily. A whole-home media filter at MERV 11-13 handles most fine particles. A UV purifier adds value specifically for biological contaminants. The technician will explain which option addresses your actual concern based on what the assessment finds.

  • Will a higher MERV filter damage my HVAC system?

It can if the filter is too restrictive for your air handler. The technician checks your system’s rated static pressure before recommending any filter upgrade, so the new filter improves air quality without straining the blower motor.

  • What humidity level should I target in a Denver home?

Most homes in Denver are comfortable between 35% and 45% relative humidity in winter. Going above 50% risks condensation on windows and inside wall cavities. The humidifier is set to a specific target range and confirmed with a post-install hygrometer reading.

  • What happens if I delay addressing poor indoor air quality?

During wildfire smoke season, fine particulates accumulate indoors without adequate filtration. Prolonged exposure to PM2.5 above 35 micrograms per cubic meter is linked to respiratory irritation. A standard 1-inch filter does not capture particles at that size.

  • Does installing an ERV require major ductwork changes?

It depends on your existing duct layout, which is why the assessment includes a ductwork review. Any modifications needed are scoped and priced in the written estimate before installation is scheduled, so there are no surprises on the day.

  • Is a licensed technician required for these installations?

Yes. Whole-home humidifiers and ERVs connect to your HVAC system’s electrical and duct infrastructure. We arrange a licensed technician for every installation to ensure the work meets local code requirements and does not void equipment warranties.
